To head the department in terms of the Public Service ACT and to be the accounting officer of the department in terms of the PFMA.

• Management & coordination of departmental strategy, communication, language, customer care, business operations, organizational performance & policies for the department
• Management, coordination, development, monitoring and evaluation of spending by Provincial departments and provision of hands on support to Local governments/ Sustainable Resources Management
• Management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer/Integrated Financials Services for the department
• Management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Corporate Services for the department
• Management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Financial Governance and Shared Internal Audit Services for the province of the Eastern Cape; and
• Implementation and strategies for the province in terms of PFMA and MFMA. Constitution and any prescribed national and provincial norms and standards, including any prescribed standards of generally recognised accounting practice and uniform classification system in provincial departments.
