        The target for cataract surgery rate has been reduced from an annual target of 450/1 000 000 to 240/1 000 000.

        The decrease in the target is as a result of reduction in infections related to Covid-19 pandemic.  In the third
        quarter performance report, the cataract surgery rate was over  achieved at 410.2/1  000 000 due to the
        partnership with the South African National Council (SANC) for the blind. The SANC did cataract surgeries in
        St Elizabeth Regional Hospital.

        In District Hospitals, the department had challenges  capturing the  data on the District Health Information
        Systems, as a result Hypertension new client 18 years older detection rate was not achieved at 0.8 per cent.

        In an  effort to improve  this indicator, the department ensures  adequate recording of Non-Communicable
        Diseases data.  The department conducted World Aids Day event cautioning and advising the public about the
