5. Main Services
The entity’s main services are summarised as follows:
• To collect revenue in the form of gambling taxes, and pay it over to the provincial fiscus through
DEDEAT;
• To conduct investigations and regulatory functions to ensure that the license award processes
are flawless;
• To conduct revenue and compliance audits to ensure compliance and adherence to license
conditions, legislation and regulations;
• To conduct awareness programmes to educate the public on gambling related issues in the
province;
• To conduct sweeps and inspections in an effort to protect the public interest and the licensed
operators from unfair and illegal competition;
• To ensure effective governance and accountability, including credible financial and performance
reporting in accordance with all relevant standards and legislation;
• To conduct research surveys and seminars to guide the development of information in the
gambling industry; and
• To implement socio-economic development projects in order to empower communities that are
the most vulnerable and impoverished in the province.
6. Programme details
ECGB delivers on its mandate by organizing its operations into activities, which pursue the
organization’s high-level goals and objectives through the following programmes:
• Corporate services management and administration:
Provides corporate administrative and management support services to the organisation and the
budget programme, including the Board of Directors, to ensure that the ECGB mandate is
executed, achieved, and reported upon accordingly.
• Gambling regulation and consumer protection:
Implements the ECGB Act and other statutory mandates through conducting investigations,
licensing, compliance, revenue and gaming control and law enforcement, protecting consumers,
including public interest activities such as educating consumers and the public about responsible
gambling and mitigation of excessive and uncontrolled gambling.
• Knowledge and information management:
Build a strong foundation of valid and reliable empirical research and programme evaluations to
inform operational and policy advisory decision-making.
