In 2023/24 the provincial government will continue to ensure the realization of Outcome 3 of the National Development
Plan (NDP) which states that “All people in South Africa are and feel safe” as well as Priority Six of the Provincial
Medium Term Strategic Framework (PMTSF) which focuses on social cohesion and safer communities. The provincial
government will ensure the safety of the vulnerable by scaling up programmes directed at fighting the scourge of
gender-based violence (GBV) in communities. These programmes include the prevention and early intervention
against GBV related crimes.
In addition, the provincial government will ensure that a community approach is adopted to fight the plague of GBV by
involving all relevant stakeholders such as the community forums, SAPS, traditional leaders and other key public
departments. In 2023/24, the provision of adequate shelter and refuge will be increased for all victims of GBV where
counselling and psychosocial services will be made available.
